Our Approach
Fair Operating Practices

Sustainability

When transacting business, it is essential to comply with laws, regulations and social ethics and to maintain a fair and equitable relationship with partners and competitors to ensure mutual growth development. At Sawai, we strive to realize fair operating practices with measures such as the prohibition of bribes to public officials and unethical treatment of business partners.

Compliance

Compliance

We have established a Compliance Committee and made efforts to enhance compliance awareness through education and training activities for our officers and employees. We also operate a help line (whistle-blowing and consultation desk) to promote the prevention, early detection and elimination of scandals resulting from violation of laws and regulations.

Information Security

We take a company-wide approach to information security by implementing information security management procedures and education through e-learning, among other measures.

Fair Transaction Practices

Code of Fair Competition, Code of Practice (Promotion Code, Business Entertainment Guidelines, etc.)

We strive to ensure thorough compliance with the Code of Practice, including the Code of Fair Competition that restricts provision of money and goods to unfairly induce business transactions and the Promotion Code and Business Entertainment Guidelines that define ethical norms.

Transparency Guidelines

We have formulated the following guidelines in accordance with the “Transparency Guidelines for the Relationship between Corporate Activities and Medical Institutions” (established by the Japan Generic Medicines Association). These guidelines cover the publishing of transaction information to enhance transparency in our relationships with medical institutions, etc., and make information concerning payments and funding to medical institutions, etc. publicly available.

Procurement Guidelines

Sawai has prepared procurement guidelines with a focus on sustainability to provide direction on what factors should be prioritized when conducting transactions. The items contained in the guidelines also reflect Sawai’s Sustainability commitments. By requesting the understanding and cooperation of the organizations we work with, Sawai seeks to build “a healthy society and its sustainable development” with our business partners.

Appropriate Tax Payments

Appropriate Tax Payments

The national health insurance system allows people to receive high-quality specialized medical treatment at affordable costs. It is supported not only by patient medical expenses and health insurance associations but also a substantial amount of government taxes. We make sure to pay the taxes required of us in accordance with tax laws and judicial precedents, as part of our efforts to fulfill our social responsibilities as a manufacturer of pharmaceutical products.

Ethical Consideration in Animal Experimentation at Sawai

Ethical Consideration in Animal Experimentation at Sawai

Sawai gives the highest possible consideration to animal welfare, based on Japan's Act on Welfare and Management of Animals, and the guidelines from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare or Ministry of the Environment, Japan. All animal experimentation conducted in and outside the company is reviewed by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee in terms of the “3Rs” (reduction in the number of animals used, replacement with non-animal experiments whenever possible, and refinement to alleviate animal suffering). For the future, we are also studying alternative evaluation systems to animal testing.
